Katachi Amti is a traditional Maharashtrian dish which is prepared from leftover water of chana dal (Split chickpeas) or using soaked and boiled chana dal. It’s a spicy dal with a watery consistency. It is usually prepared along with Puran Poli, Rice.
In Maharashtra traditional Katachi Amti has been prepared during festivals.

Serve: 4-6 People
Ingredients:
- 2 cup Katt (Chickpeas boiled & churned)
- 8-10 Garlic Cloves
- 1 inch Ginger
- 3 Green Chillies
- 1/2 cup Roasted Dry Coconut
- 1/2 cup Roasted Onion
- 1 Bay Leaf
- 2 Cardamom
- 4-5 Black Pepper
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 2 Cloves
- 1 Mace piece
- 1/2 tsp Poppy seeds
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds,
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds,
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 tsp Coriander Powder
- 10-15 Curry Leaves
- Coriander Leaves
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp Oil
- Water as required
Method of Preparation:
- In blender, add roasted Coconut, roasted Onion, Garlic Cloves, Ginger, Green Chillies, Bay Leaf, Cardamom, Black Pepper, Cinnamon Stick, Cloves, Mace piece, Poppy seeds and Coriander leaves.
- Blend it into smooth paste. ( masala)
- Heat 1 tbsp Oil to add tempering to curry.
- Now add ingredients to temper, Mustard seeds and Cumin seeds. Let it splutter.
- Add curry leaves and Stir.
- Add Smooth paste (prepared masala) and saute well for 2-3 minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala and coriander powder. Again saute it for few minutes.
- Add some water and cook well till oil oozes out, then add salt to taste.
- Let’s add Katt (Chickpeas boiled & churned). Mix it well.
- Pour water as required. Bring it to boil and cook on medium flame for another 2-3 minutes.
- Add coriander leaves and Serve hot with Puran Poli or Rice.
